What your HitTrax numbers mean
HitTrax turns every swing into numbers. Here is what the main ones mean and how to use them without getting lost in the data.

Exit velocity
How fast the ball leaves the bat, in miles per hour. It is the clearest single measure of how hard a player hits the ball. Higher exit velocity generally means more hits, because the defense has less time to react. Track your average and your best, and look for both to climb over time.
Launch angle
The vertical angle the ball comes off the bat. Around zero degrees or below is a ground ball, roughly 10 to 25 degrees is a line drive, and much higher is a fly ball or pop-up. Most hitters are aiming for consistent line drives, so a launch angle that lives in that middle range is a good sign.
Distance
How far the ball would have traveled on a field. Distance comes from exit velocity and launch angle together, so it is a fun result to watch, but the two inputs are where the real coaching happens.
How to use the numbers
- Pick one goal at a time. For example, raise average exit velocity by a few miles per hour, or tighten launch angle into the line-drive range.
- Compare against yourself. A 10-year-old and a high school senior should not chase the same numbers.
- Pair data with coaching. The numbers show what happened; a coach helps explain why and what to change.
